Our Executive Director has thirty years in the development of children and youth through non-profit organizations, including Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Junior Achievement, children's church, children and youth Sunday school, Young Life, and others.
December, 2008 Lynda Gittens spent 30 days in Sunyani, Ghana, West Africa. Her heart was full of love and a desire to help the youth in that country.
May 18, 2009 Babies Youth Children Empowerment Ministries, Inc. was born.
September, 2009 Incorporate as an exempt non-profit organization in Texas.
April 2010 We held our first school supply drive to celebrate our first year anniversary. The Girl Scuts of San Jacinto Council partnered with us, along with our wonderful donors.
August, 2011 - We were able to provide school supplies and books to 125 students in Ghana, 100 students attending an all boys school in the inner city of Houston, students residing in a transitional home - Madge Bush, Yellowstone Academy, and the Covenant House Teens. We still provide school supplies year round. Our largest distribution in January.
July, 2012 - We began our Backyard Bible Camp at a low-income apartment located in the Sunnyside community of Houston. We now serve a multiple locations.
September, 2012 - We began our one on one tutoring sessions for Grades K-12 for various communities. We now have several sites.
July, 2013 - We began our Academic Enrichment and Science Technology Engineering Mathematics Summer program for Grades 3-9. We now have expanded our sites and the length of the program.
September 2014 - We begin our SAT Tutoring program for students academically struggling in their class studies and / or test taking. We are focusing on student not financial able to pay the high cost corporate programs.

I have known Rev. Lynda Wright Gittens for more than 18 years and have worked with her closely for the past 5 years. I have watched her unselfishly give of her time, energy and resources to empower youth, both male and female, to reach their goals. She has been very instrumental in the scouting program, having served as a Girl Scout leader for more than 20 years, helping to cultivate character, values and service to others. Without a doubt, Lynda has the heart of a true servant seeking to elevate and advance the lives of others to achieve what God has destined for their lives. I have had the distinct pleasure of getting to know Lynda Gittens and working with her for nearly 10 years. Lynda is one of the most compassionate individuals I have met, especially as it relates to youth. Lynda has been involved with the Girl Scouts of America for nearly 30 years and has always exemplified leadership. Lynda has been more than the ideal Girl Scout leader and Girl Scout teen advisor for the Girl Scout Troop at Wheeler Avenue and more importantly to both my girls. Lynda’s support of my daughters and her leadership has guided my daughters (and many others) to achieving the highest Girl Scout honor awarded –the Gold Award. Based on her successes in life, I can easily say that her leadership far exceeds any expectations…Lynda will exemplify the positive image expected at BYCE Ministries.
